Wolf Roth

Wolf Roth (born August 30, 1944 in Torgau ) is a German actor .

Life

Wolf Roth was born in Torgau when the family was on the run. He spent his childhood and youth in Bremen. In 1961 he went to the United States as an exchange student , where he graduated from college in Detroit . Then he hitchhiked through the Midwest. On his return he did his Abitur in Bremen and then attended the Free University of Berlin , where he studied sociology and business administration. Friends took him to the entrance exam at the Max Reinhardt School for Drama , where he was discovered by the actress Hilde Körber . While still a student, he was seen by Boleslaw Barlog and engaged by Katajew for his performance of the play Quadrature of the Circle . In 1967 he made his theater debut at the Schillertheater Berlin . In 1967 he moved to the Oberhausen Theater . During the 1968/1969 season he went back to Berlin to play at the Berlin theater and at the Schaubühne on Halleschen Ufer (today Schaubühne am Lehniner Platz ). During this time, Wolf Roth worked in productions for television. Initially in several films by Wolfgang Petersen ; later he became famous as a performer in numerous German crime and television series, including Der Kommissar , Derrick and Der Alte as well as in Das Erbe der Guldenburgs . He also had guest appearances in US television series, such as Agentin mit Herz , Magnum , Quincy and Code Name: Eternity .

He is married to Barbara May , also an actress and founder of a drama school, the filmacademy in Vienna, and has a son, David Christopher Roth .

Wolf Roth trained as a pianist in his youth. At the age of 12 he gave his first Mozart evening in Bremen, at 14 his first Beethoven concert and at 16 in the USA the “Warsaw Concerto” by Addinsell and the “ Rhapsody in Blue ” by George Gershwin . In the production of the "Robbers", a production in modern clothing, he played the grand piano live on stage.
