Ernst Lubitsch Prize

The Ernst Lubitsch Prize for the best comedic performance in German film has been awarded annually since 1958 by the Club der Filmjournalisten Berlin eV. The idea of donating the prize named after Ernst Lubitsch came from Billy Wilder . The figurative trophy was first awarded on January 28, 1958.

The pan figure comes from the Berlin sculptor Erich Fritz Reuter (1911–1997). The undoped prize is usually awarded on January 29th, Ernst Lubitsch's birthday. The award can also take place at a later date.

At the beginning of March 2009, the award was given to the American comedian and director Mel Brooks for the first time as an honorary award .
