Peter Timm

Peter Timm (born September 28, 1950 in East Berlin ) is a German film director and screenwriter .

Life

Peter Timm completed his studies in Russian and history at the Humboldt University in 1969 . At the same time he was taking acting and directing classes in his hometown. In 1973 he was expelled from the GDR due to his system-critical thinking and then studied German and Russian in West Berlin . In 1976 Timm went to Frankfurt am Main and worked until 1981 as an author, director and actor for political cabaret at the Karl Napps Chaos Theater and at the Theater am Turm . From 1981 to 1984 he was a lecturer in the field of role subject / contemporary drama at the New Munich Drama School .

In 1986 Timm's first feature film Meier came out, for which he also wrote the screenplay. The film received the Bavarian Film Prize and the Ernst Lubitsch Prize. The big breakthrough came with the nationwide acclaimed East-West comedy Go Trabi Go (1991) with Wolfgang Stumph in the leading role. With the comedy Manta - Der Film (1991) he succeeded in introducing the so-called “Proll-Schick”, which then shaped German comedies such as Voll normaaal . With his wife Heike Wiehle-Timm , Timm founded the production company Relevant Film in 1993 . He won the Bavarian Film Prize 1995 for the best children's film for racing pig Rudi Rüssel . He also directed the sequel Rennschwein Rudi Rüssel 2 - Rudi runs again! and wrote the script together with Karsten Willutzki .

Peter Timm is a member of the German Film Academy .
