action
The cartoonist Frenzy (Katja Riemann) lives and works in Munich, lives in a studio-like warehouse and is in a creative crisis. Her skits are quite pessimistic, which is why her editor-in-chief asks her to draw more optimistic stories, otherwise she could lose her job. Frenzy's best friend Maischa has meanwhile transferred her boyfriend Klaus, with whom she should go to a conference over the weekend. Instead, she wants to use the weekend to go out and party. Both visit an exhibition where Maischa falls in love with the handsome Rene. Although her line-up that night was unsuccessful, Frenzy finds out more about Rene through a friend. In this way, an appointment is made between the two of them for the next day. Meanwhile, Frenzy is supposed to take care of Mark, a friend of Renes who is visiting him.
Although Frenzy initially considers this to be a waste of time and annoyed takes Mark under her wing, the day together with him in Munich turns out to be very pleasant and funny. Meanwhile, after a meal with Rene, Maischa has ended up at his home and sleeps with him. When Frenzy comes home at night and finds Maischa already in her bathtub, she tells of the disastrous sex with Rene. Frenzy and Mark meet again in the coming days and fall in love. The looming relationship becomes a challenge for both of them, as Mark lives and works elsewhere and is rarely in Munich. Meanwhile, Maischa separates from her boyfriend and tries to get along with just herself for the time being.
background
Make up! was made as a training film at the University of Television and Film Munich . It found a theatrical distributor and became a surprise success with over 1.1 million admissions in Germany. Because of the short running time of 55 minutes, Rainer Kaufmann's short film The Most Beautiful Breast of the World was shown as the opening act.
Reviews
Der Spiegel rated the film as light, lovable and lively, a pulsating and tingling film that looks cheekily over the shoulder of its characters.
The Bremen edition of the taz wrote: “ As an unvarnished everyday observation of what women really are, the story is hardly useful. Say after halfway brisk saying these women of today are lined up, and at the slightest occasion they get excited again about prince charming. And all too often fall back into the clichés of our cinematic images of women. "
