action

Every morning the Hamburg radio host Monika Krauss gives her listeners useful advice on love life. In her private life, however, it looks bleak, because she is still looking for Mr. Perfect . Pressed by her gay brother René, who met his handsome but somewhat stupid friend Karl through a personal ad, and her mother, she finally placed an ad herself. In fact, the apparently perfect man reports: Dentist Erik. After Monika has met her new friend Sabine in the gym, she is invited to dinner by her and it turns out that Erik is Sabine's husband. Monika and Erik try to keep their relationship a secret at first, although Sabine already suspects something of a lover and then packs her bags to move in with Monika. After some confusion, the friends send Erik into the desert and move in with René and Karl.

background

Originally the film was only planned as a television production for ZDF , but the film's potential was already apparent during the shooting and it was finally shown successfully in the cinemas. Around 1.67 million cinema-goers saw the talk of the town in Germany. A subject plagiarism of the ZDF film by screenwriter Ben Tylor was created in 2012 with the Sat1 film Stadtgeflüster - Sex nach Fünf by screenwriter Kerstin Widé.

criticism

  • “'City Talk' is a thoroughly acceptable television film for the early evening program - but it lacks the refinements in terms of content and form for the cinema. Direction, camera and editing only make a small effort to win attractive cinematic resolutions from the simple construction of the script. Only a few scattered scenes reveal the ambition to produce a visually and rhythmically appealing film for the screen. ”- film-dienst No. 21/1995.
  • “'Talk of the town' is an amusing, but far-fetched and somewhat naive tabloid comedy that does not leave out the most improbable involvement. The story should be like something from real life, but it looks like it was designed on the drawing board. But the dialogues are pointed, the timing is right and the actors, especially Moritz Bleibtreu as a dear-stupid bodybuilder, give their best. If the German comedy in relationship is not completely sick of your neck, you will have fun with Rainer Kaufmann's love swing. "- Philip Nathusius:

Awards

Both for her performance in talk of the town as well as Rainer Matsutanis Comedy Over my dead body won Katja Riemann in 1996 the German Film Award , the Bavarian Film Award and the Ernst Lubitsch Prize . Director Rainer Kaufmann received the HypoVereinsbank directing award at the Munich Film Festival in 1995 and was also awarded the Bavarian Film Prize. This was followed by two further nominations for the German Film Prize ( Best Director , Best Feature Film ).
