Rainer Matsutani

Rainer Matsutani (born July 9, 1964 in Hockenheim ) is a German film director and screenwriter who has made a name for himself in particular in the film genres of thrillers , crime novels and horror films . In some smaller roles he was also active as an actor .

Origin and professional career

Rainer Matsutani's father is of Japanese origin and his mother is German. He spent several years of his childhood in Japan. Matsutani headed the film group at his school, the Bunsen-Gymnasium in Heidelberg . Immediately after graduating from high school in 1984, he began writing reviews and film articles for various magazines and local daily newspapers. He later moved to Berlin, where he took part in the Berlin screenwriting workshop for young writers as a scholarship holder . In 1988 Rainer Mastutani began his training at the Munich University for Television and Film .

In 1989 he founded the production company Engram Pictures with his fellow students Harry Patramanis and Jürgen Hebstreit, for which he wrote the 30-minute short film Flight into the Night in 1989 . A commercial and industrial features followed before Matsutani achieved his first major film success in 1991 with the short film thriller Klinik des Horens (with Ulrike Folkerts ).
