biography
Youth, family and private life
Mariele Millowitsch comes from a German family of actors . She was born as the fourth and youngest child of the Cologne folk actor Willy Millowitsch and his wife Gerda. Her aunt, the popular actress Lucy Millowitsch , ran the family theater for many years together with her father. Her great aunt was the actress and singer Cordy Millowitsch . The grandfather Peter Wilhelm Millowitsch was also an actor and theater director. In 1936 he acquired the theater on Aachener Strasse in Cologne. Brother Peter also works as an actor and directed the family theater from 1998 to 2018 .
She lived with her partner in Cologne. The couple split in December 2009 after eight years of relationship.
education
Due to the occupation of her parents, she, like her siblings, was on stage at an early age and, in addition to her schooling, took on numerous roles at the Millowitsch Theater. After graduating from high school, she first studied veterinary medicine at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . In 1983, shortly before the end of her studies, she accepted an offer from Kay Lorentz to play at the Düsseldorfer Kom (m) ödchen and later switched back to the Millowitsch Theater. In the late 1980s she decided to resume and complete her studies. She received her doctorate in 1991 with the subject of experimental and clinical studies on percutaneous, partial discectomy (PPD) in dogs . She did not practice her profession, but finally returned to acting after completing her doctorate.
Career
In addition to working at the theater, she soon got small roles in television series. In the mid-1990s she became known to a wide audience in Germany when she played the role of Marie Malek in the ZDF series girl friends - friendship with heart from 1995 . She embodied this leading role at the side of Walter Sittler until 2004. From 1997 onwards, the actor duo was seen in parallel in the comedy series Nikola on RTL . Millowitsch also played in international productions such as the French series Julie Lescaut . After the end of Nikola in 2005, she again took on a series lead role. In the German version of Family Law , she played the family lawyer Hanna Lorenz in 16 episodes.
In 2008 she returned to ZDF and has since played the Cologne commissioner Marie Brand in the crime series of the same name. The FAZ considered the film series to be “not innovative”, but “well written, well played and well done”. In addition to her participation in numerous television series, she has also appeared in leading roles in various television films, such as Dirk Regel's lottery ticket ins Glück (2003, at the side of Miroslav Nemec ), in advanced divorce from Josh Broecker (2010, alongside series partner Sittler ), in Thomas Nennstiel's tragicomedy Idiotentest (2012) or at the side of Johanna Gastdorf as environmental activist Anna Wagner in Two in the Middle of Life (2014).
