action

The unemployed Leonie Krüger in her forties becomes the sole heir to a friend named Roos, who allegedly died of heat stroke. The inheritance, however, is tied to strange conditions. From now on, Leonie has to look after Roos' three cats and moves into the deceased's apartment. Her late friend was obviously very wealthy. The apartment is luxurious and there is a large amount of cash in the safe. She begins to wonder how her friend Roos, as a simple pharmaceutical laboratory technician, was able to afford a life that might appear inconspicuous, but actually so luxurious. An unknown man introduces himself to her as Roos' friend Fred. Fred, a contractor, is convinced that Roos was murdered. Together with Fred, Leonie begins to research where all the money came from. You come across numerous suspects with different motives, namely the colleagues from the laboratory where Roos worked as a chemical laboratory technician, the members of a sadomasochism club in which Roos frequented and Fiona, a confused girl who Roos probably looked after. Together with Fred, she gradually discovers evidence that Roos was murdered. Leonie puts her life in danger because of her investigation. Finally she succeeds in uncovering the machinations of the laboratory.

background

The television film was based on the novel "The Sundial or the Secret Life of My Friend Roos" by Maarten 't Hart . The literary critic Elke Heidenreich had personally recommended the novel to read on her television program, but also to her Cologne neighbor Mariele Millowitsch. Mariele Millowitsch was enthusiastic and recognized the book's cinematic potential. Her friend, the film producer Jutta Lieck-Klenke, let her acquire the rights. The film was ultimately produced by Network Movie on behalf of the Second German Television. It was mainly shot in Flensburg . The locations of Flensburg city center (with the Holm and Kompagniestraße ), the Flensburg harbor , the Mürwik naval school and the Glücksburg spa beach were used as locations . Additional film recordings were also made in Hamburg.

The film was first broadcast on April 4, 2005 on ZDF. The film reached 7.54 million viewers on this broadcast date with a market share of 22.9 percent, making it the best-tuned program of the day. One repetition took place on July 16, 2007 on ZDF and another on July 9, 2013 on 3sat .

criticism

The TV magazine Prisma judged: "Based on the original" The Sundial "[...] Weber [...] staged a gripping, heavily played crime film, in which one does not suspect after the first minute what it is all going to lead to." The television critic Rainer Tittelbach said: “Solid, somewhat staid ZDF crime thriller [...]. Jürgen Vogel brings it! ”The TV Spielfilm stated:“ The book is more exciting again ”.
