MechWarrior 3050

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

MechWarrior 3050 , also known as BattleTech: A Game of Armored Combat when first published in the USA , is an action game by Activision , developed by Malibu Interactive. It was first released in 1994 for the Mega Drive and was ported to the Super Nintendo by Tiburon Entertainment in 1995 . It is a licensed product for the science fiction tabletop game BattleTech .

Gameplay

The game is timed during the clan invasions. As the MechWarrior of the Wolf Clan, the player controls a Mech of the Madcat type, which is supposed to take out targets in five missions on five different planets. The game was often compared to the helicopter action games of the Strike series . Before the start of the mission, the player can choose three of nine weapon systems for the mission. The ammunition is limited, the stronger the less shot. From an isometric overview perspective , the player steers the mech through the different landscapes. He fights enemy units and destroys industrial facilities to reduce enemy supplies. There are also specific mission goals, some of them under time pressure. Collectibles distributed in the game world provide replenishment and reduce damage to your own mech.

The game can be played alone or with a second player. In the latter case, both players share control of the mech: one moves the unit, the other controls the weapons.

The game received mixed reviews.

“Anyone looking for a good action game in the best strike style will be well served with Battletech. Five missions are not that much, but you will have a lot of trouble to cope with them, because they are by no means easy. "

- Stefan Hellert : Mega Fun 12/94 (Mega Drive)

“While EA's Strike series is all about the ingenious mix of action and strategy elements, Activision's product only offers pure constant bombardment. The level of difficulty is also brutal. "

- Ulf Schneider : Mega Fun 12/95 (SNES)

“Although Mechwarrior 3050 is based on the world-famous FASA Battle Tech universe, it does not do justice to its cult status in the least. Otherwise well presented, the harsh level of difficulty and the only five level material battle of the gigantic tin comrades are annoying. "

- Stefan Hellert, Stefan Girlich : Fun Generation 6/95 (SNES)
