MechAssault: Phantom War

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

MechAssault: Phantom War is an action game for Nintendo DS and a licensed product of the BattleTech franchise that was released by Majesco Entertainment in September 2006 . It is the third MechAssault game and comes from Backbone Entertainment .

action

The player takes on the role of Vallen Brice, a MechWarrior and professional hacker of the Lyran Alliance. He is tasked with investigating the hyperpulse generators that usually enable communication between planets. But for more than 60 years they can no longer be used because of a computer virus. Recent rumors suggest that it could be turned into a weapon. Brice's job is to prevent this from happening.

Gameplay

The player see the game from a third-person perspective . Most of the time it controls a combat mech, with a choice of two input schemes. Variant 1 controls the mech with the help of the D-pad and the aiming control of the weapons with the action buttons, in variant 2 the second screen simulates an analog stick that can be operated with the stylus.

The game is mission based. In linear 3D levels, the player engages in real-time battles with enemy tanks, mechs and flight units. There are varying objectives, including rescue, assault and escort missions. The player character can also leave their mech for a short time to get into another mech model with different abilities or to use the hacking ability to open access to new sections of the game. Hacking is simulated by a mini game. Defeated enemies leave behind collectibles that can be used to restore the life energy of your own 'Mech.

The game can be played wirelessly, but not online with up to four players.

“Respect to the developers - I didn't think that the MechAssault feel could be transferred to the DS. When you get used to the graphic wasteland and the somewhat spongy control via touchscreen, you will have almost as exciting fights as on the old Microsoft console. On the other hand, the DS is missing the component that provided so many fun hours at the beginning of the Xbox Live era: the online mode. "

“Although MechAssault: Phantom War isn't necessarily the worst game to ever pop up on the DS, it's pretty close to the bottom of the pile. The poor controls and bland graphics are a far cry from everything that made the original MechAssault game on the Xbox such a success. "

“While MechAssault: Phantom War isn't necessarily the worst game ever to show up on the DS, it's pretty close to the bottom of the line. The poor controls and flat graphics are a distant copy of what made the original MechAssault games a success on Xbox. "
