The total (own notation: ! TOTAL ) was a magazine that deals with the video games from Nintendo dealt. It appeared monthly from June 1993 to December 2000.

The naming rights were bought from an English magazine of the same name, which appeared from 1991 to 1996. It was the German-speaking TOTAL! not a pure translation magazine, but a magazine with independent editorial work. It was mainly characterized by reporting and a video game rating system based on the school grading system, and tried to separate objective from subjective ratings.

After the MVL-Verlag had to file for bankruptcy, the December 1995 issue was no longer published. Former employees of the MVL-Verlag founded a new company with the X-Plain-Verlag and ran TOTAL! continue with issue 1/1996.

Due to the waning game development for the Nintendo 64 at the end of the 1990s and the growing competition from Internet-based video game publications, the magazine was discontinued without notice.
