A case for Dr. Abel is a German crime film series on the television station Sat.1 with Tim Bergmann in the title role of forensic doctor Dr. Fred Abel, which has been produced and broadcast since 2018.
It is a film adaptation of the crime thriller series Fred Abel by forensic doctor Michael Tsokos and the writer Andreas Gößling .

The Sat.1 managing director Kaspar Pflüger announced in a DWDL.de interview at the beginning of February 2018 that more fictional in-house productions would be broadcast on the station in the next few years and that, among other things, new film series were being planned. At the end of February 2018, the broadcaster Sat.1 finally announced the film adaptation of the crime thriller Zersetzt (2016, Volume 2) of the Fred Abel series by forensic doctor Michael Tsokos and writer Andreas Gößling . As titular lead role was Taunus crime -Hauptdarsteller Tim Bergmann cast. The film adaptation of Ivo-Alexander Beck was produced by Bavaria Fiction GmbH and Ninety Minute Film GmbH under the responsible Sat.1 editor Yvonne Weber.
At the beginning of February 2019, a sequel to the series with the film adaptations of the thrillers Zerschunden (2015, Volume 1) and Broken (2017, Volume 3) was announced. Ivo-Alexander Beck took over the production again with Ninety Minute Film GmbH .
While the first film was shot from February 19 to March 26, 2018 in Berlin and Budapest , the two subsequent films were shot from February 11 to April 14, 2019 in Berlin, Brussels , Antwerp , Paris and Mykonos .
