action

In a driving school in Cologne , three women with different characters meet for a preparatory seminar for the idiot test , because their driving licenses have been invalidated for a limited time. Driving instructor Marius Bender makes the course participants, who also include some others, bad reproaches, which is not met with much approval. It demands a realistic self-assessment, absolute honesty and responsible behavior. After Bender's provocative opening speech, Katja is the first to stand up to the man. After this first encounter, the three protagonists first really get to know each other in a cafe. Katja, Annette and Isabel confess their life stories to each other and obviously have an amusing afternoon together. They discover that everyone has massive private problems: Katja is divorced and her ex-husband refuses to support her because he is allegedly penniless after bankruptcy. She sees him driving an expensive luxury convertible with his girlfriend. Annette has a drinking problem and was always of the opinion that she was happily married, but now she realizes that her husband is obviously lying to her. Isabel is the shyest and youngest of the three. She has no self-confidence and is so subservient to her boyfriend Lars, with whom she works in the same company, that she does not even notice how she is being exploited by him. Through the seminar, the course participants get to know Erik, who makes a certain impression on all three and always has an open ear for the worries of the others. Katja takes advantage of this for her goals and makes an appointment with him in her favorite bar. Erik doesn't know that Katja has also invited her ex-husband to an alleged discussion here and that Werner now wants to make Erik jealous. But since Werner does not appear, she tells Erik the truth, which ultimately means that he would have brought her home and almost spent the night with Katja had it not been for a call from the hospital. Werner had an accident and when he asked about Katja, she was informed. Worried, she goes on the way, but realizes that her ex-husband is exaggerating again and everything is less bad than he claims to be. Meanwhile, Isabel spends the evening with her boyfriend Lars. He had received an invitation from his boss and is therefore hoping to be promoted shortly. But the evening turns into a disaster and the two split up in an argument because Isabel has gained self-confidence since attending the seminar. She tries to forget the events of the evening in a bar and by chance meets the course instructor Bender, who appears very nice and friendly here in private and takes care of the drunk Isabel. Before she knows it, they both end up in bed. The next day, she is asked to see her boss at the company, who tells her that she is not getting the promotion, but Lars.

Annette withdrew from the seminar after her husband moved out because he could no longer cope with her alcohol consumption. This finally gives her the impetus to stop drinking. She reconciles with her husband and promises to continue to stand by him.

The MPU seminar is about to end and course leader Bender asks his protégés what they have now learned. He notices that the participants apparently still have not changed their basic attitude, which was the cause of the driving license revocation. When one of the candidates gave him a home-baked nut cake, he was initially touched, but suffered an anaphylactic shock due to an allergy . In order to save his life, Katja, Annette and Isabel drive him to the hospital, although their driver's license has still been revoked. Proud of their good deed, they now introduce themselves to the MPU tester. Contrary to expectations, all three exist. Katja runs into Erik by chance and they both realize that they should meet again shortly.

criticism

Rainer Tittelbach from Tittelbach.tv rated: “The disillusioned, the little mouse and the mentally unstable. Three female urban neurotics on the way to the idiot test - and to themselves. After plenty of cocktails & prosecco, they roam the valley of tears ... Stefan Rogall has invented a trio of girls who, on the verge of a nervous breakdown and with a prefinal tendency towards tragic comedy, face everyday life looks. A dialogue-assured, well-cast comedy that is also correct dramaturgically. Millowitsch hasn't been so funny since 'Nikola'. "

For the critics of the television magazine TV Spielfilm , the idiot test was “not idiotic at all, but really clever”. They gave the film their best possible rating by pointing their thumbs up.
