action

Anna Wagner is a committed environmental activist. Just back from a liberation campaign for chickens in factory farming, she receives the news of the death of her father Karl. So after 30 years she goes back to Hückeskirchen in the Bergisches Land , the village of her childhood. As the sole heir, she does not have to keep in front of her father's house and property. But the municipality of all people is interested in the property and Bea Westkamp is the mayor. Anna Wagner and the mayor know each other very well because they used to be very best friends. That shifted to the opposite because Bea left Anna in the lurch at a joint demo, which she has never forgiven her to this day. Now, after so many years, Anna is ready to draw a line under the story, but at the next opportunity the encounter between the former friends escalates again. After a bad argument, they split up again.

After a reconciliation that Bea strived for and almost succeeded, Anna had to realize that Bea is using every means to get her inherited property. Anna doesn't want to allow that at any price. This extends her planned stay in the Bergisches Land, which means that Anna's friend Christian turns up in the village.

Neither Anna nor Bea suspect that two young people have planted a cannabis plantation in the barn of old Karl Wagner, who had spent the last few months in a nursing home. One of the boys is Max, the mayor's son, of all people, who was recently caught by the police with a large amount of weed . As a precautionary measure, he and his friend want to take the plants away from the yard, but this always fails because someone is always arriving on the property.

Bea Westkamp is gradually coming under pressure at the citizens' meeting, because a hardware store was to be built on the Wagner property, which should offer the place jobs and future opportunities. Fearing that the investor will jump out if the contracts cannot be signed soon, the mayor offers an alternative plot of land. But Anna, who for her part did not want to stand in the way of the wellbeing of the place, had already contacted the investor and sold her property directly to him. When Bea now offers an area directly next to it, the investor also buys this without mentioning that he now has twice the area available as originally planned, which means he can and wants to expand his offer significantly. That was not what the community wanted. This had deliberately wanted to have a small hardware store to protect its own small traders.

When Anna and Bea notice their double sale, which they can no longer undo, they drown their grief, reconcile and forge a plan together. They are looking for an endangered species that they can relocate to one of the lots to bring down the oversized blueprints. At the same time they organize a demo and inform the press in order to protect the common frog supposedly native here . The plan works and Schneider withdraws from buying the second property. Anna and Bea are very happy that they managed it and that their friendship is intact again.

criticism

Rainer Tittelbach from tittelbach.tv judged: “'Two in the middle of life' is an actor-Vehihel that relies on a (homecoming) scenario and a dramaturgy that is immune to surprises of any kind. It could be about different life plans; but the authors have little to say about it. This topic is only a component of the dramaturgy. Peter Gersina's comedy is difficult to get going. A few scenes with Millowitsch and Gastdorf, however, are delicious. A routinely cranked down on-it-safe-ZDF film with little attention to detail. "

The critics of the TV magazine TV Spielfilm gave it a medium rating (thumbs to the side) and found: “Thin jokes, pale figures (including Christoph M. Ohrt, Ingo Naujoks), fake emotions and a story that sounds familiar - that's what she wants The good mood that the clarinet interludes do not set. "Conclusion:" In life something goes wrong. "
