Ladyland was a comedy series by and with Anke Engelke .

concept

Ladyland was a further development of the Ladykracher format , in which no longer many small clips but complete stories were recorded. This made it possible for the respective represented figure to develop a more structured personality. In this way, the viewer was encouraged to delve deeper into the situations and also to better recognize hidden gags.

The main female roles in each of the three or two stories were played by Anke Engelke, the other roles were taken on by changing actors.

The series

First season

The first season was broadcast on Sat.1 in March / April 2006 , the books are by Chris Geletneky and Sascha Albrecht.

In a 60-minute episode (45 minutes net), three stories were told that originated in a common place (e.g. a hotel lobby). There the protagonists of the three acts met by chance, and each of these people was told how their story continues.

Second season

In the second season of Ladyland , two independent stories were told in a 25-minute episode. In between there were small short sketches with the Engelkes figures that were already known from Ladykracher and Anke Late Night . The season comprised a total of 24 stories, twelve of which were already shown as part of the first season. The links to the earlier parallel stories were cut out, one even got a different ending.

Reviews

The reviews of Engelke's new format were mostly positive, with particular praise for her courage to try out a new concept that offers more subtle humor for adults . As an example, Christian Buß's comment on Spiegel Online:

It seems questionable, however, that "Ladyland" can actually keep the customers who have previously exposed themselves to the brutally regressive ProSieben clothes. Even if this should be the strategy of the ProSiebenSat.1 network of broadcasters. The joke of the fairy tale massacre and the no less explicit but enlightening erotic joke of Engelke's show just don't go together. In order for "Ladyland" to prevail, the series would probably have to be given time to balance out its complicated narrative process and to reach an audience that is mainly composed of the older age groups of advertising-relevant viewers between 14 and 49.

However, as far as Anke Engelke is familiar with her old house station, Sat.1 does not allow any of its comedy experiments at this time.
