Anke Late Night was a German late night show produced by Brainpool .

Course of quotas and market share

history

The show, moderated by Anke Engelke , started on May 17, 2004 on Sat.1 on the slot of the Harald Schmidt Show . The show's house band was the “Electric Ladyband”, led by Claus Fischer , formerly the bass player for the TV total band. A € 10,000 bet between Rudi Carrell and Olli Dittrich caused a sensation before the premiere . Carrell had bet the show was going to be a failure. The then Sat.1 boss Roger Schawinski responded to this in a media-effective manner and bet 20,000 euros against it. The bet was later withdrawn by Carrell.

Reception after the premiere broadcast

The show failed to meet the expectations of many and already lost a lot of viewers in the first week. The program was unable to meet the previously announced claim to invite current guests until it was canceled 18 weeks after its premiere.

Summer break and recruitment

From August 5th to August 30th, 2004 Anke Late Night went into the summer break despite announcements to the contrary from Sat.1. This fueled the rumors that the mostly negative criticism as well as the quotas, which were consistently well below expectations, would lead to the show being discontinued. On October 21, 2004, the show was finally canceled for this reason.
