Nonstop Nonsens is a humorous television series, the first episode of which was broadcast on German television on March 29, 1975 . By 1980, 20 episodes had been produced and broadcast on the main evening program (8:15 pm). Dieter Hallervorden was the inventor, leading actor and co-writer of the popular series. All episodes were directed by Heinz Liesendahl , and among others, Wolfgang Menge acted as copywriter . In addition to Hallervorden, Rotraud Schindler , Kurt Schmidtchen and Gerhard Wollner appeared as actors.
Concept, content
All nonstop nonsense episodes are about 42 minutes long and structured according to the same scheme.
Opening credits
In the opening credits , short excerpts from the series and archive recordings are shown, especially fictitious accidents and stunts that finally end with the collapse of a row of houses. Hallervorden then steps in brightly colored clothes in front of a curtain and sits down in the middle of the live audience in order to follow the action with them (this was not the case in the first episodes; Hallervorden used to give a short speech there). The theme music is an instrumental version of the song "Make 'Em Laugh" from the 1952 musical film Singin' in the Rain .
The sequel story
Hallervorden appears in the role of the idiot Didi Meisenkaiser or Mr Slap (in the first two episodes) in four to five sequential films , each lasting around five minutes . The individual stories have titles such as “Didi's first winter vacation”, “Didi is moving”, “Didi in gangster circles” or “Didi as a policeman”; only the episode “Didi in the Wild West” lasts almost 45 minutes without interruptions. Didi's actions generally lead to chaos - mostly caused by the cunning of the object or unexplained confusion - and his efforts to tame this chaos intensify it considerably. He is regularly mistaken for another person or is forced to chase after important objects (wedding ring, diamond).
Didi Meisenkaiser appears in bizarre costumes or embarrassingly has to act in sparse clothing. His fellow human beings are badly affected by his actions, but he himself also has to struggle with physical challenges. He races down a ski slope on his face or crashes into a wall on the roof of a driverless car. Hallervorden usually performed the stunts himself.
Skits
Live skits are presented between the individual films in which Hallervorden is regularly seen in the role of a crafty, cunning contemporary who drives his fellow men to despair. Typically, the comedian enters a shop or travel agency and upsets his interlocutors by acting overly dumb or confusing them with absurd, but mostly completely logical questions (example: "I would like to have this fur cleaned by you." “But it doesn't belong to you!” - “Are only furs cleaned here that belong to me?”). Even small films show the comedian in funny situations (“The middle part of Doctor Schiwago ”).
Songs and terms
In Nonstop Nonsens Hallervorden also appears as an interpreter of humorous songs. The comedian, who by no means corresponds to the common ideals of beauty, ironically ironizes his appearance with titles such as “I am the most beautiful man in our tenement” or “ I break the hearts of the proudest women ”.
A special series of nonsense after notes was devoted exclusively to the musical performances of Hallervordens. The best-known titles were, in addition to the ones just mentioned, “I like to kill myself for my life” and “Debededehakape - Stupid stays stupid, no pills help”.
The Zumsel is a term that Dieter Hallervorden coined in the sketch of the same name. In it Hallervorden plays an antiques dealer who serves a difficult customer. He wants to buy something very rare and discovers a swab in the shop. Hallervorden praises him as a Zumsel in order to achieve a high sales price. To substantiate the value, reference is made to alleged previous owners (e.g. Napoleon ). The Zumsel was damaged in the World War, which in turn broke out simply because the Bavarians did not agree that Einstein wanted to be crowned German Emperor with the Zumsel. The sketch "Der Zumsel" was part of the episode "Der Zumsel und other antiques" in Nonstop Nonsense . It was first broadcast on October 10, 1979.
The played joke
After the end of the credits, the program ends with the "pretend joke". This is a sketch played in front of an audience with an introduction by and participation by Dieter Hallervorden. Since the credits have already run, the sketch only takes a few seconds to minutes.
The grotesque sketch “ Palim-Palim ” became famous .
Important teammates
In Nonstop Nonsens Dieter Hallervorden worked with a regular ensemble that played a wide variety of characters in the various skits and films. Hallervordens then wife Rotraud Schindler took on almost all female roles. Their children, Dieter jun. and Nathalie (nine years old at the time) starred in some skits. The short, skinny Kurt Schmidtchen was often used in the role of the lively, good-natured, and occasionally choleric gentleman. Gerhard Wollner often played the choleric victim of the unscrupulous and tricky Hallervorden and was happily driven to white heat by him. In the first episodes, Volker Prechtel was seen several times as a clownish law enforcement officer and sheriff. The Austrian actor Herbert Fux appeared frequently as a villain in the sequel films.
Significance in television history
Nonstop nonsense was one of the most popular humorous series on German television in the 1970s and established Dieter Hallervorden as a successful comedian (after the series ended, he made several movie comedies). Some dialogues and idioms from non-stop nonsense - for example “Hach, is that exciting!”, “What ?? Ins Hoteeeeel? "," Palim-Palim " and the legendary" Bad luck for the cow Elsa "- have become part of the German vocabulary.
DVD
Since 2005 Nonstop Nonsens has been available as a two-part DVD set with a total of seven DVDs. At the end of 2014, a Blu-ray edition with the complete series was also released on a data carrier in SD format.
