Berlin Bear (BZ Culture Prize)
The Berlin Bear (not to be confused with the Silver and Golden Bears of the Berlinale ) is a culture award from the tabloid B.Z.
It has been awarded annually to outstanding artists since 1991. The BZ bear is a bronze sculpture designed by the Berlin sculptor Ernst Leonhardt . According to one of the artist's molds, the sculpture is cast at the ARA-Kunst foundry in the Bavarian forest using a wax-melting process, patinated in a greenish brown and polished by hand. The sculpture is called The Dancer and is about 30 cm tall.
So far, celebrities such as Daniel Barenboim , Norman Foster , Martina Gedeck , Katja Riemann , Helmut Newton , Armin Mueller-Stahl , Katharina Thalbach , Christa Ludwig , Christo and Jeanne-Claude , Volker Schlöndorff , Mario Adorf , Hildegard Knef , Ute Lemper , Yvonne took part Catterfeld , Karl Lagerfeld , Claus Peymann , Anita Kupsch , W. Michael Blumenthal , Billy Wilder , Daniel Libeskind , Wolfgang Joop , Max Raabe , Nina Hagen , Heino Ferch , Regina Ziegler , Walter Plathe and Dieter Hallervorden received the award.

In 2009 there was no award ceremony. On December 8, 2008, Axel Springer AG announced that all events in 2009 would be canceled. The reason for the rejection was the international financial crisis. The publisher wanted to prevent layoffs with the austerity measure.
