Eva Wagner-Pasquier (born April 14, 1945 in Oberwarmensteinach ) is a German theater manager . From 2008 to the end of the 2015 season, she was artistic director and managing director of the Bayreuth Festival together and on an equal footing with her half-sister Katharina Wagner .
Life
Eva Wagner-Pasquier is the daughter of Wolfgang Wagner and his first wife Ellen Drexel and therefore the great-granddaughter of Richard Wagner and great-great-granddaughter of Franz Liszt .
After Wieland Wagner's death , Eva Wagner worked in Bayreuth as her father's assistant from 1967 to 1976. She discovered the tenor Peter Hofmann and played a key role in the casting and rehearsals for Patrice Chéreau's " Ring of the Century " in 1976. After that, she left the festival because her parents' divorce had led to an estrangement between her and her father.
In the following years Wagner-Pasquier was assistant to August Everding and Otto Schenk and worked at the Vienna State Opera . At the Unitel production company, she oversaw more than 30 opera and 120 concert films. In 1984 Wagner-Pasquier became director of the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London, and in 1987 she took over the program management of the Opéra Bastille in Paris. Since then she has also been artistic advisor to the Festival d'Aix-en-Provence and the European Academy of Music . As a consultant she was u. a. also worked for the Teatro Real in Madrid and the Metropolitan Opera in New York.
In 2001 the Bayreuth Foundation Council nominated Eva Wagner-Pasquier as future festival director with a majority of 22-2 votes. Her father, who had an open-ended employment contract, rejected this vote at the time, as he favored his second wife Gudrun as his successor. Only after the unexpected death of Gudrun Wagner at the end of 2007 did a “cautious rapprochement” between Wolfgang Wagner and Eva Wagner-Pasquier take place. In April 2008, Wolfgang Wagner agreed to step down in favor of his two daughters - Eva and her half-sister Katharina Wagner . Then both submitted a joint application to the Board of Trustees, which the Board of Trustees accepted on September 1, 2008 with a majority of 22 votes (with 2 abstentions).
Eva Wagner-Pasquier's contract, one of the two artistic directors of the Bayreuth Festival, was not extended beyond 2015. She announced her voluntary resignation to the North Bavarian Courier . In the wording: "I asked the shareholders to involve me as an advisor from September 2015." As advisor to the festival, she will take care of communication with the Richard Wagner associations .
Eva Wagner-Pasquier is married to the film producer Yves Pasquier. Their son Antoine Amadeus Pasquier was born in 1982.
