The Prime Time Theater (spelling: prime time theater ) is a modern folk theater in the Berlin district of Wedding . It sees itself as a pop theater.

history

The Prime Time Theater was founded on December 3, 2003 in Berlin-Gesundbrunnen in the Soldiner Kiez by Constanze Behrends and Oliver Tautorat. Oliver Tautorat has been running the theater alone since 2015. The two were initially the only actors on stage, and together they invented and developed the stage sitcom Gutes Wedding Schlechtes Wedding . Constanze Behrends wrote the first 100 episodes of this stage sitcom alone, but the ensemble developed the episodes and characters together. Over the years the ensemble grew and the theater changed venues three times. The current theater was expanded in 2009 with the help of the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the Berlin Lottery Foundation . It has an auditorium with 220 seats and a salon with a bar. In 2019, the theater was saved from bankruptcy in a rescue operation . The RAZ Kultur gGmbH took over the operation and continued to run the theater.

Theater operations

The productions of the Prime Time Theater are exclusively original pieces. Mainly the series Gutes Wedding, Bad Wedding is played. Occasionally, completed pieces are performed, which are mostly parodies of well-known TV or literature genres , e.g. B. CSI Wedding , A Midsummer Night's Dream   or Three Angels for Wedding . All actors play several characters per play.

Good wedding, bad wedding

The stage sitcom Gutes Wedding, Bad Wedding (GWSW) is unique in its form and scope worldwide. It has been performed in the Prime Time Theater since January 10, 2004. The episodes 101–118 wrote u. a. Daniel Zimmermann .

The title of the series alludes to Germany's most famous soap opera Gute Zeiten, Bad Zeiten . But not only the title is borrowed from television. The whole series is a mixture of parodies of typical television formats and regularly uses video clips during the performance to enhance the feeling of a television evening.

A new episode appears every five weeks. As with a soap opera, it is very easy for a new viewer to join, since at the beginning of each episode you are brought up to date with a short “What happened so far”. So far, 126 episodes have been produced.

The plot is ongoing, is developed together with the ensemble, and takes place largely in the Weddinger Kiez. But Friedrichshain , Prenzlauer Berg and Uckermark have also made their way into the series. There is a solid core of characters. These are typical Berliners, e.g. B. the original Weddinger Kalle, kebab shop owner Ahmed, "Kiezschlampe" Sabrina, the band The Friedrichshainis , or the artist Claudio Fabriggio from Prenzlauer Berg (so-called "Prenzlwichser").

In December 2016, four episodes of the series were broadcast on rbb .
