Iris Berben
Iris Renate Dorothea Berben (born August 12, 1950 in Detmold ) is a German actress and voice actress . She became known to a wider audience in 1978 through Two Heavenly Daughters , directed by Michael Pflegehar . In addition to numerous television and feature films she made with Diether cancer the comedy series Sketchup and was the protagonist in the ZDF - thriller series Rosa Roth .
Life
Berben grew up in Hamburg as the daughter of a couple of restaurateurs. She repeated the seventh grade of the boarding school of St. Peter-Ording and was expelled from this and two other boarding schools, including today's Sophie-Barat-Schule , before she finished her school career without a high school diploma .
She had her first television appearance in 1967 in a report on the Nordschau of NDR television about the flower children of the Hanseatic city; in it she was seen in a large shot as a flower distributor. In 1968 she moved from Hamburg to Munich , where she made her first film Detectives under the direction of Rudolf Thome . A year later she had a role in the spaghetti western Zwei Companeros , with Franco Nero and Jack Palance , among others . She became known to a wider audience in 1978 alongside Ingrid Steeger in the Klimbim follow-up series Two Heavenly Daughters , directed by Michael Pflegehar . In addition to many other films, she shot the comedy series Sketchup with Diether Krebs . From 1987 she played Evelyn von Guldenburg in the television series Das Erbe der Guldenburgs . With the German actress Hannelore Elsner , she played together in the drama Andrea and Marie in 1998 and in the horror film Fahr zur Hölle, Sister in 2002 . . In the 2008 novel Buddenbrooks , Berben was seen as Consul Buddenbrook. As a TV commissioner, she plays the title role in the Rosa Roth crime series on ZDF . This series and many other television productions with her were directed by Carlo Rola , especially Die Patriarchin und Krupp - Eine deutsche Familie .
In 1978 she was a model for Playboy and in 1987 and 2002 for Penthouse . Berben has spoken various audio books . In 2002 Michael Verhoeven staged her opposing readings from the diaries of Anne Frank and Joseph Goebbels . In 2010 Iris Berben was elected as the new President of the German Film Academy alongside Bruno Ganz . From 2013 to 2019 she held the office alone.
Private life
In the late 1960s, Berben was in a relationship with the Israeli singer Abi Ofarim and from 1974 to 2006 with the Israeli businessman Gabriel Lewy. In 2007 she met her current partner Heiko Kiesow while filming Africa, mon amour . She is the mother of the film producer Oliver Berben .
Berben lives in Berlin.
Social and political engagement
After the Six Day War in 1967, Berben traveled to Israel for the first time . In 2002 she received the Leo Baeck Prize of the Central Council of Jews in Germany for her continuous commitment against right-wing extremism , anti-Semitism and for Israel's right to exist within safe limits. In August 2007 she opened the United Buddy Bears exhibition in Jerusalem as patron . She is the first signatory to the Stop the Bomb initiative , which opposes the Iranian nuclear weapons program. Berben also supports the association Show Your Face! For a cosmopolitan Germany e. V. , which campaigns nationwide against xenophobia , racism , anti-Semitism and right-wing extremist violence. She is the patron of the Magen David Adom -Israel in Germany e. V., who supports the Magen David Adom ( Red Shield of David , Israel's national rescue and blood donation service). Berben is a member of the board of trustees of the German AIDS Foundation . Iris Berben publicly supported the SPD in several elections . At the ceremony for the 150th birthday of the SPD in May 2013, Berben presented the history of German social democracy . She supports the campaign "My voice for reason" initiated by the SPD in 2016. On February 12, 2017, she was a member of the Federal Assembly . Iris Berben is the patron of the music theater project “ Die Kinder der toten Stadt ”, which is available to schools with educational material for performances and which, through the approach of music, offers new didactic approaches in terms of the culture of remembrance. Since 2016 she has also been a member of the jury for the award of the International Nuremberg Human Rights Prize .
