action

In New York brothels a killer condom is up to mischief, which, once put on, bites off its victim's penis. Since nobody wants to believe the victims at first, the prostitutes are held responsible. Inspector Luigi Mackeroni and his stuffy partner Sam Hanks are investigating. The trail leads to a brothel, where Mackeroni is having a one-night-stand affair again, the transsexual karaoke singer Babette (formerly Bob), who confesses to him that she still loves him. Mackeroni, on the other hand, rejects her, instead he goes to a room with the young hustler Billy to hook up with him. However, here he discovers the killer condom, which bites off his right testicle and can escape.

Mackeroni, of course, does not believe the fact that a condom was responsible for his injury. Nevertheless, he continues with the investigation without much success. One evening, in a shower scene in his apartment that is strongly reminiscent of Hitchcock's Psycho , he is attacked by lovesick Bob with a knife in his hand. The condom that he brought turns out to be a killer condom. Due to a lack of ammunition, Mackeroni lures the condom with a gas tube, which bites and finally bursts.

At first it seems as if the nightmare has come to an end; Mackeroni apologizes to Bob, shortly afterwards has a hot liaison with Billy in the elevator of the brothel, and the remains of the killer condom are examined in the pathology department. But after more castration victims report and even the presidential candidate loses his member, the public's attention for the first time and the previously skeptical police chief comes under pressure. The police learn from testimony that Prof. Smirnoff, an inventor of rubber compounds used for prostheses and condoms, may be involved in the matter. The stuffy Sam Hanks is said to be an undercover investigator in the gay scene; However, this fails because Mackeroni puts a yellow cloth in his right pocket, whereupon he is peed after the hanky code . After a loud argument between Mackeroni and Hanks, however, the two get along again.

The trail leads them to a Christian mental hospital run by the fanatical Dr. Riffleson. This has an underground hiding place in which the drugged Prof. Smirnoff makes the killer condoms. Mackeroni and Hanks fall into the hands of Riffleson. She scolds the former as a blasphemous pervert and tries to force him to bare his penis in front of an XXL killer condom. When Billy shows up, there is a shooting; In the end, Riffleson takes Billy hostage, but after a speech by Mackeroni about humanity and homosexuals, she commits suicide by throwing herself into a basin full of killer condoms. The film ends with Mackeroni quitting his job with the police and emigrating with Billy to his homeland Sicily to marry with his mother's blessing.

Differences to the comic books

There are several differences in the film from the two comics, such as: B.

  • the acid-spitting monster from Down to the bones is completely missing
  • Mackeroni does not marry at the end of the comics, but simply falls in love with a porn actor, with whom he has a rendezvous at the end of the book.
  • Hanks' gay tendencies are barely visible in the film
  • Mackeroni doesn't give a speech at the end of the comics, Riffleson is attacked by a killer condom, whereupon it turns out that she was a transvestite in disguise
  • the length of Mackeroni's penis is estimated in the film to be 32 cm, 8 cm shorter than in the comics (where it is described as "longer than his nose", an allusion to the bulbous nose of the characters)

Award

The film was voted the biggest flop of the 1996 film year by CINEMA readers in the 1997 Jupiter election. The readers had given the comic film Condom of Horror with 20.1% even before striptease , which received 16.7% of the vote.

The German Film and Media Evaluation FBW in Wiesbaden awarded the film the title valuable.

criticism

  • Lexicon of international films : “The film adaptation of a bestselling comic book. The unimaginative direction and amateurish actor management reinforce the dramaturgical inconsistencies of the script, which culminate in an unspeakably flat homosexual postulate. Only played convincingly in the main role. "
  • Moviemaster.de: "[...] this story is now too daring for the cinema screen: the 'condom of horror' comes largely without bite [...]"
  • Kino.de: “Of course, the humor is not exactly intellectual, but rather close to the people, but the potential for amusement is far above the average for German comedies. Excellent actors, black humor and a hearty dose of personalities, this mélange should appeal to the German audience "
