Troma Entertainment is an American independent film production company founded in 1974 by Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz . At the beginning some sex clothes were shot. With the takeover of the marketing of Blood Sucking Freaks , Troma is concentrating on films that usually have a dramatic depiction of violence, combined with horror elements and rough humor ( trash horror , splatter , exploitation ). Her cheaply produced films ( low-budget films ), which are seldom recognized by the established specialist press, enjoy cult status among a wide range of fans . Her most famous film, Atomic Hero (The Toxic Avenger), has been cited as one of her greatest influences by Peter Jackson , Quentin Tarantino and Takashi Miike , among others .
Troma films were also often the start of great film careers, e.g. B. for Kevin Costner (Sizzle Beach USA), Marisa Tomei (The Toxic Avenger) , Billy Bob Thornton (Zombie Town) and Samuel L. Jackson (Def by Temptation).
In 2012 Troma published one hundred and fifty of its productions on the online video portal YouTube .
Troma's headquarters are located at 733 Ninth Avenue, in the heart of the Hell's Kitchen district in New York City , New York, USA.
