Marisa Tomei (born December 4, 1964 in Brooklyn , New York City ) is an American film and stage actress and Oscar winner.

Career

Tomei dropped out of Boston University after a year when she was offered a role in the television series As the World Turns (1983-1985). This role paved her way into the film business, even if she only got a small supporting role in her first film Flamingo Kid (1984, alongside Matt Dillon ). Her breakthrough came in 1992 with the role of Mona Lisa Vito in My Vetter Winnie , for which she received the Oscar in the category Best Supporting Actress .

From 2016 she takes on the role of May , aunt of Peter Parker , played by Tom Holland , in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the film The First Avenger: Civil War .

Tomei is a member of the Naked Angels Theater Company and the Blue Light Theater Company in New York City.
