All members of the association are entitled to vote. The last award so far took place on January 12, 2020 in Santa Monica.

Since 2016, the Television Awards have been presented together with the Movie Awards in a joint ceremony in currently 51 different categories (23 in the television sector and 28 in the film sector ).

history

The Broadcast Film Critics Association , founded in 1995, became an offshoot of the Broadcast Television Journalists Association in 2011 . This hosted the first Critics' Choice Television Award ceremony on June 20, 2011 at the Beverly Hills Hotel . The 13 categories awarded at the time also included one for the "most promising" new series of the upcoming summer and fall seasons in the United States. The specialty of this category is that the nominees are only selected on the basis of pilot episodes and trailers and then all are awarded.

At the second and third awards , a total of five categories were created for mini-series or television films , one for cartoons or animated series and one each for guest actors in comedy and drama series. The total number of categories rose to 23.

For the sixth award ceremony in January 2016, the initially independent television award was merged with the long-standing film award under the name Critics' Choice Awards . The Television Awards event changed from summer to winter and was relocated to the Barker Hangar at Santa Monica Municipal Airport . For the seventh award , the date of the event was brought forward by one month (from January to December), which means that there will be two awards ceremonies in the 2016 calendar year.

The event was broadcast live on TV in 2014 by US broadcaster The CW . The cable broadcaster A&E has been broadcasting the award ceremony since 2015 .
