The Critics' Choice Television Award in the category Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series (Original name: Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series ) is one of the awards , held annually in the United States by the Broadcast Television Journalists Association , a federation awarded by television critics, . It is aimed at actresses that an outstanding performance in a supporting role in a drama - TV series have provided. The category was launched in 2011. The winners will be determined in a secret vote by the association's television critics.

History and records

Since it was first awarded, the Broadcast Television Journalists Association has awarded a total of nine awards in the Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series category to eight different actresses. The first recipients were Christina Hendricks and Margo Martindale , who were honored in 2011 for their roles as Joan Harris in Mad Men and Mags Bennett in Justified , respectively. The last winner so far was Ann Dowd , who was honored in 2018 for her role as Lydia in The Handmaid's Tale .

The oldest winner at 61 years of age was the American Ann Dowd ( The Handmaid's Tale ) in 2018, and the oldest nominated actress at 66 years of age in 2018 was the American Margo Martindale ( Sneaky Pete ). The youngest winner at 36 years of age was the American Christina Hendricks ( Mad Men ) in 2011 , the youngest nominated actress, each 26 years old, was the American Mae Whitman ( Parenthood ) in 2015 and the American Hayden Panettiere ( Nashville ) in 2016 .
