The Americans is an American television series that of FX aired in the US for the first time on 30 January 2013 to 30 May 2018 for six seasons. The series takes place at the time of the Cold War in the early 1980s and tells the story of two Soviet KGB - spies , the couple Elizabeth and Philip Jennings, with their unsuspecting children in a suburb of Washington, DC live. The series was nominated for several prizes and received a TCA award. It was first broadcast in German on February 5, 2014 on ProSieben Maxx .

KGB spies Elizabeth and Philip Jennings, who have lived in the United States since the late 1960s , have a marriage arranged there by their commanding officer. Her two children, 14 year old Paige and 11 year old Henry, complete the picture of a perfectly normal family. Elizabeth and Philip have grown closer over the years, but their everyday lives are determined by their espionage and agent activities. The situation is made more difficult by the fact that her new neighbor, Stan Beeman, works in the FBI's counter-espionage department. Philip also takes a liking to life in the US and begins to question his role.

Joe Weisberg, a former CIA agent, contributed the idea for the series . Most of the scenes were filmed in New York City at Eastern Effects Studios in Brooklyn . Some other locations are Farmingdale and Kew Gardens .

After the start of the series on January 30, 2013, FX extended the series early in February 2013 by a second season, consisting of 13 episodes. In March 2013, Susan Misner was promoted from recurring guest actress to leading actress. About two months later, shortly after the first season ended, Annet Mahendru and Alison Wright also rose to the main cast. A fourth season was ordered at the end of March 2015. In May 2016, the series was extended for a fifth and final sixth season, which ended the series in 2018.

The first season aired on FX between January 30th and May 1st, 2013. The second season aired between February 26 and May 21, 2014. Season 3 aired January 28 through April 22, 2015. The fourth season aired from March 16 to June 8, 2016, season 5 from March 7 to May 30, 2017. The sixth season was from March 28 to May 30, 2018.

German-speaking area

The German-language premiere of the first season took place from February 5 to March 12, 2014 in the German Free TV transmitter ProSieben Maxx . The Swiss public broadcaster SRF Zwei broadcast the German-language first broadcast of the second season from February 16 to May 18, 2015. From the third season or from April 26, 2016, the German-language first broadcast took place on the pay TV channel Sat.1 emotions .
