Matthew Rhys Evans (born November 8, 1974 in Cardiff , Wales , United Kingdom ) is a Welsh actor .

Life

Rhys studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London . After minor appearances in various television series and a role in Elizabeth , Rhys went to New Zealand in 1998 . There he played in the television series Green Stone .

In 1999, Rhys starred opposite Anthony Hopkins and Jessica Lange in Titus and in the comedy What Happened to Harold Smith? . In 2000 he went back to England to star in the Metropolis series . In the same year he starred with Jonathan Pryce in the drama The Miracles of Taliesin Jones . Furthermore, Matthew Rhys played from 2000 on the side of Kathleen Turner in the theatrical version of The Graduation . In the last episode The Last Party of the American crime series Columbo, he played a murderer.

In 2001 he was featured in the multi-part television series The Forgotten World . In 2006 he starred with Brittany Murphy in Love and Other Disasters . From 2006 to 2011, Matthew starred in the television series Brothers & Sisters . Since 2013, Rhys has been part of the main cast of the FX drama series The Americans alongside Keri Russell . In 2017, Rhys played the whistleblower Daniel Ellsberg in Steven Spielberg's historical drama Die Verlegerin .

Rhys has been dating Keri Russell, his fellow actor from The Americans , since early 2014 . Their son was born in May 2016.
