The Edge of Love is a British drama from 2008 . Directed by John Maybury and written by Sharman Macdonald .
action
Vera Phillips met Dylan Thomas as a teenager , with whom she had a love affair. A few years later - during the Second World War - she meets Thomas, who is now known as a poet, in London . Thomas is now married to Caitlin MacNamara; Phillips worked as a singer and met the soldier William Killick, whom she married shortly afterwards. Thomas writes scripts for propaganda films.
After her husband Killick has been transferred abroad, Phillips moves to live with Thomas and his wife MacNamara in a neighboring house. Phillips gives birth to their son Rowatt while her husband and child's father are fighting in Greece . She renews her love affair with Thomas and becomes friends with MacNamara. Upon his return, Killick becomes violent towards the poet, believing Thomas is the child's father.
In the end, Killick is acquitted in a trial, despite Thomas testifying against him. MacNamara and Thomas subsequently leave their home while Phillips and Killick stay there with their son Rowatt. The two women still promise each other that they will never be lonely.
Reviews
The BBC's editorial staff described the film as a "powerfully drawn love story" .
A review in the Daily Mail on March 14, 2008 praised the "extraordinary" ( "sublime" ) depictions of Keira Knightley and Sienna Miller. The four main actors are "brilliant" .
backgrounds
Keira Knightley first appeared in a film based on her mother's script. In an interview, she spoke about how extraordinary this work was because the actress grew up with the works of her mother, which had played a large role in her life. However, the mother's presence on the film set was not an additional burden.
The film was shot in London and in various locations in Wales . Its world premiere took place on May 15, 2008 at the Cannes Film Market . The Edinburgh Film Festival opened a screening of the film on June 18, 2008 , and it was shown in British cinemas two days later. The German theatrical release was on July 23, 2009.
