Big eagle - chief of the Cheyenne ( original title: Brave Eagle ) is an American western series .

action

The series tells stories of Great Eagle, the peaceable Cheyenne chief and his tribe, who retreated from the advancing white immigrants in the 19th century. The 30-minute episodes each deal with the everyday life of the Cheyenne, the dangers of the wilderness, their conflicts with other tribes and their efforts to avoid armed conflicts and, last but not least, the encounter with the white settlers and their prejudices against the Indians.

The protagonist Großer Adler is supported by his foster son Keena, the storyteller Smokey Joe and his daughter, Dawn.

background

What was unusual about the series, which was shot in black and white , was that it reflected the settlement of the American West from the perspective of the natives. It was also the first series with an Indian as the main character. All episodes were directed by Paul Landres . Although the series was produced by NBC , it was broadcast on competitor CBS . The German television broadcast thirteen episodes of the series in 1967; In 1970, eleven episodes were repeated.

DVD release

In 2012, the thirteen dubbed episodes of the series were released in a complete box on DVD .
