Rolf Serick

Rolf Serick (born June 30, 1922 in Göppingen ; † March 20, 2000 in Puerto Plata , Dominican Republic ) was a German lawyer.

Live and act

The son of the tax officer Willy Serick and his wife Martha (née Behrends) studied in Vienna and Tübingen , and then worked as a scientific consultant from 1949 to 1956 at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Private Law , which was then based in Tübingen. In 1956 he married Lucia Schottlaender (1923–1991).

He had obtained his habilitation in 1953. In the same year he began teaching at the University of Tübingen . In 1956 he was appointed full professor at the University of Heidelberg and taught there until 1987. He was also an honorary professor at the University of Stuttgart .

The academic works he has written focus on securing loans in the modern economy. It deals in detail with the question of retention of title and transfer of security. This work was also translated into the Japanese language.

In 1997, in memory of his deceased wife, he founded the non-profit Rolf and Lucia Serick Foundation on August 11th , which is dedicated to the procurement of literature at the Institute for Foreign and International Private and Business Law at the University of Heidelberg and annually for outstanding doctorates at the Institute Serick Prize for publications in the Heidelberg series of comparative law and business law studies .
