The 74th Golden Globe Awards ( English 74th Golden Globe Awards ) took place on January 8, 2017 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills . The members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) voted on the best American and foreign film and television productions and artists of the previous year, which were honored at a gala dinner.

The most successful film of the evening was La La Land by Damien Chazelle , which received awards in all seven nominated categories. The musical is the most awarded film in the history of the Golden Globe Awards and broke the previous record of six prizes won by the film productions One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1976) and Midnight Express (1979). The politically committed speech by the honorary award winner Meryl Streep , in which she criticized the future US President Donald Trump without mentioning his name, also received media attention .

The nominations were announced on December 12, 2016 by Don Cheadle , Laura Dern and Anna Kendrick . Among them there were also three Germans who got nothing. Director Maren Ade entered the race for Germany with her celebrated father-daughter story Toni Erdmann . In addition, two German film composers were nominated in the Best Film Music category. Volker Bertelmann alias Hauschka wrote the music for the film Lion - The Long Way Home together with Dustin O'Halloran , Hans Zimmer composed the soundtrack for the film Hidden Figures - Unrecognized Heldinnen together with Pharrell Williams and Benjamin Wallfisch .
