Hailee Steinfeld
Hailee Steinfeld (born December 11, 1996 in Tarzana , Los Angeles , California ) is an American actress and singer . She was best known for her role as Mattie Ross in the 2010 film True Grit . She has been nominated for several film awards. As a singer, she achieved several chart positions with her songs.
Life
Steinfeld was born in Tarzana , a district of Los Angeles . Her parents are the interior designer Cheri Steinfeld and Peter Steinfeld, a personal trainer . Her cousin is the actress True O'Brien . Steinfeld's maternal grandfather is Filipino . She is a great niece of former child actor Larry Domasin .
When she was still young, she moved to Agoura Hills with her parents and her brother, Griffin , who was around two years older , from where she moved to the Californian coastal town of Thousand Oaks some time later . There she grew up and attended there first the Conejo Elementary School and later the Colina Middle School , which she left at the end of her first year to receive home schooling .
Steinfeld gained his first experience in acting while shooting commercials for well-known brands and business chains such as Kmart . She made her film and television debut in 2007 when she appeared in an episode of the short-lived series Back to You . This was followed by various appearances in mostly youth-oriented films such as Heather: A Fairy Tale , where she played the leading role, She's a Fox , Grand Cru , Summer Camp and Without Wings . After she was seen in five well-known film productions until 2010, she appeared in an episode of Sons of Tucson that same year .
In 2010 she starred in True Grit , an adaptation by the Coen brothers of the novel by Charles Portis of the same name . She played the lead role alongside Jeff Bridges , Matt Damon , Josh Brolin and Barry Pepper and was awarded several prizes for this. In 2011 she was nominated for an Oscar and the British BAFTA Award , among others .
In 2013 she starred in the female lead in the film Romeo & Juliet (2013), which is based on Shakespeare's work, alongside Douglas Booth as Romeo. Steinfeld also played in Ender's Game (2013). She appeared as Emily Junk in Pitch Perfect 2 (2015) and Pitch Perfect 3 (2017).
After the performance of Flashlight in Pitch Perfect 2 , Steinfeld released a cover version of the song and then signed with the record company Republic Records . In 2015, Steinfeld released her first single, Love Myself , which went platinum in the US and silver in the UK. In mid-2016, her single Starving , which was created in collaboration with Gray and Zedd , entered the German charts for the first time. In Great Britain the single reached gold status.
In December 2016, Steinfeld was awarded for her role as Nadine Franklin in the dramedy The Edge of Seventeen - The year of decision u. a. nominated for a Golden Globe .
In 2017 she was accepted into the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), which awards the Oscars every year.
