DNCE (2017)

DNCE is an American pop-rock - band , which was founded, 2015. It consists of Joe Jonas , Jack Lawless, Cole Whittle and JinJoo Lee and is signed to Republic Records . The debut single Cake by the Ocean was released on September 18, 2015 and reached number 9 on the US charts .

Career

Joe Jonas became known as a member of the Jonas Brothers , a pop-rock band that found success with their music and acting. The band released four studio albums between 2006 and 2009, which sold over 17 million copies. After the Jonas Brothers split up as a band, Jonas released a solo album, Fastlife , in 2010 . Although the Jonas Brothers recorded their fifth studio album in 2013, this was never released.

Jack Lawless first met Jonas while playing drums on the Jonas Brothers' Marvelous Party Tour in 2007. Lawless and Jonas became friends and Lawless performed with Jonas' band on other tours. In 2010 Lawless became the drummer for the band Ocean Grove , which released their first EP in 2011.

Cole Whittle gained fame as the bass guitarist for the band Semi Precious Weapons . The band released three studio albums up to their last album in 2014. JinJoo Lee has also been on tour with the Jonas Brothers and played guitar. She was a member of the band that toured with Cee-Lo Green from 2010 to 2011 and later worked with Charli XCX .

Jonas and Lawless first had the idea of founding the band DNCE when they were living together for some time, but it was initially not realized because both were very busy with their own projects. In 2015, Jonas, Lawless and Lee officially formed the band DNCE and shortly thereafter began working on their first studio album. Although the recordings had already started, the band was looking for a fourth member.

Jonas worked with Justin Tranter, Semi Precious Weapons songwriter, on DNCE's first album. As a result, Jonas and Whittle met, became friends and Whittle soon became the fourth member of the band. The band chose the name DNCE after they wrote a song about someone being too drunk to properly pronounce the word "dance". Lee later added that, as the band's name suggests, you don't have to be the perfect dancer if you want to dance. The band had several secret concerts in New York to rehearse for their first tour and other appearances. In September DNCE signed up on Instagram , where Jonas released the first preview for the band on September 10th.

The band released their debut single Cake by the Ocean , which made it into the charts in various countries, on September 18, 2015. On October 23, 2015, the band's first EP, SWAAY , was released . It contained four songs and received mostly positive reviews. In November 2015, the band announced a 14-concert tour entitled Greatest Tour Ever . All 14 concerts on the tour were sold out. The tour received positive feedback and the band played unreleased songs and covers of classics in addition to the previously published songs .

At the end of January 2016, DNCE took part in Grease: Live .

The band's first studio album was released on November 18, 2016 on Republic Records . It's simply called DNCE and contains three tracks from the debut EP and eleven new tracks.
