Joseph "Joe" Adam Jonas (born August 15, 1989 in Casa Grande , Arizona ) is an American actor and singer . He is also a member of the Jonas Brothers band , which he founded with his two brothers Kevin Jonas and Nick Jonas .

Life

Childhood and youth

Joe Jonas was born in Casa Grande , Arizona , but grew up in Wyckoff . His parents are Paul Kevin Jonas, Sr. and Denise Jonas (formerly Miller). His maternal great-grandfather was Italian, he also has German, Irish, English and French-Canadian ancestors and is descended from the Cherokee . His father is a musician , songwriter and former pastor of an Assemblies-of-God church. His mother was a sign language teacher and singer. Jonas and his family are very religious, which is why he wore a purity ring until 2010 . He also has three brothers: Kevin Jonas (born November 5, 1987), Nick (born September 16, 1992) and Frankie (born September 28, 2000). Nick and Kevin are also members of the Jonas Brothers band . Joe Jonas and his brothers were homeschooled by his mother Denise.

Joe Jonas is known for his media-haunted personal life and relationships with other famous people. In 2008 he was dating the singer Taylor Swift . She later said on the Ellen DeGeneres talk show that Jonas broke up with her in a 27-second phone call. She also confirmed in the same interview that the song Forever & Always from her album Fearless was inspired by Joe Jonas. From 2008 to 2009, Joe Jonas was dating actress Camilla Belle , whom he met on the set of the new Jonas Brothers music video Lovebug , and in 2010 he was dating singer Demi Lovato . He was then in a relationship with actress Ashley Greene until March 2011 . He was in a relationship with model Gigi Hadid until November 2015 . He has been in a relationship with British actress Sophie Turner since 2016 . On October 15, 2017, the two announced their engagement on Instagram . The two married in Las Vegas on May 1, 2019. On July 22, 2020, the couple became parents to a daughter who was born in Los Angeles .

Musical career

2005, debut album and rising popularity

Joe Jonas started his musical career as a lead singer and guitarist in the band Jonas Brothers , which he founded with his brothers in 2005. After the Jonas Brothers signed their record deal with Daylight Records / Columbia Records in 2005 , they began work on their debut album. This was called It's About Time and was published on August 8, 2006. It only reached number 91 in the American charts. In February 2007, the band then signed a contract with Hollywood Records , as they had previously lost their record deal due to a decision by Sony to stop supporting the band. With the change of label came the commercial success of the band, their second album Jonas Brothers was able to place itself at number 5 in the United States. The group was also able to attract attention in Germany, with the album reaching number 19.

2008 to 2010, international breakthrough of the band

In 2008 the soundtrack Camp Rock for the television film of the same name was released and ranked 3. The song Gotta Find You , which Joe Jonas sings in the film, reached number 30 in America. The theme song This Is Me , sung with Demi Lovato , even came in 9th. The soundtrack was also extremely successful outside of the country. After the international breakthrough, the band released their third studio album A Little Bit Longer in August 2008 , which reached number 1 in the USA and was only marginally less successful in Europe. In 2009 the band's last album so far, Lines, Vines and Trying Times , was released, which also ranked number 1 in America. In Germany it only reached number 56, but in England it even reached number 9. The group then embarked on the Jonas Brothers World Tour 2009 , their first world tour, where they headlined. In 2010 the sequel to Camp Rock was on television. The soundtrack Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam for the film of the same name was just as successful as its predecessor. In addition, the band's second world tour took place that same year. The Jonas Brothers Live in Concert World Tour 2010 did not include concerts in Europe, unlike the first worldwide tour.

2011 to 2014, solo career

Joe Jonas' solo album was released on October 11, 2011. However, with 18,000 units sold, it only reached number 15 on the American charts. In October Joe Jonas was in Germany for the first time as a solo artist and appeared in the opening act at the Cologne concert of Britney Spears ' Femme Fatale tour . Previously, Jonas went on the Joe Jonas & Jay Sean Tour with Jay Sean in September and October . Jonas can be heard on Ciara's song I Bet (Remix) . He has also been hosting the American program I Can Do It since 2014 together with Ciara and Nicole Scherzinger .

Since 2015, DNCE - foundation and first studio album

In 2015 Jonas founded the band DNCE together with two friends . They released their first single Cake by the Ocean on September 18, 2015 , which was followed by the SWAAY EP on October 23, 2015 .

Since 2019

In 2019 the Jonas Brothers made a comeback with the release of the single Sucker on March 1st and the accompanying album Happiness Begins in June.

2004 to 2009

Theater and breakthrough on television

In 2004 Joe Jonas got a role in the Broadway musical La Bohème through his younger brother Nick Jonas , who had been active in musicals for a long time . In 2007 Joe starred in an episode of the second season of the Disney series Hannah Montana with his brothers Kevin and Nick . The episode broke several records and became the most-watched TV episode on cable television with 10.7 million viewers. In 2008 the Jonas Brothers got their own show on Disney . The series JONAS LA was produced for two years and consisted of two seasons with a total of 34 episodes. On June 20, 2008, Camp Rock , where Joe Jonas played the leading role alongside Demi Lovato , ran on the American Disney Channel and achieved an average viewer rate of 8.9 million, which made the film the second most successful film on the station (after High School Musical 2 ). The television film made Joe Jonas known internationally. In 2009 a 3D concert film about the Jonas Brothers 'Burnin' Up Tour was released . In 2008 he was seen in a similar documentary about the Best of Both Worlds tour in the cinema. The Jonas Brothers acted as opening act on the tour with Miley Cyrus .

From 2010

Camp Rock 2 and series appearances The sequel Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam ran on television in 2010 and was just as successful as its predecessor. In the same year, alongside his brothers, he also had a speaking role in the film Nachts im Museum 2 . He was also in an episode each of the series Sonny Munroe , Hot in Cleveland and 90210 to see.
