youth

Nicole Scherzinger was born in Honolulu, Hawaii in 1978 as the daughter of Filipino Alfonso Valiente and his wife Rosemary Elikolani, who is of Ukrainian and Hawaiian descent. A few years after the couple split up, Scherzinger's mother moved with Nicole and her sister to Louisville , Kentucky , as her new husband, German American soldier Gary Scherzinger, was transferred there. After adopting the children, Nicole took the stepfather's family name.

While at school Scherzinger took acting lessons; for her first play she was on stage at the Louisville Actors Theater. During the three years she studied acting and dance after school, she made her living doing smaller jobs as a model . When Travis Meeks from the rock band Days of the New was looking for a singer, Scherzinger recorded a number of demo tracks with him , but then initially continued her training. Eventually the producer Scott Litt heard their demo tapes and invited them to Los Angeles to record their second album with the band. After the tour that followed, Scherzinger worked on her own music.
