Barry Robert Pepper (born April 4, 1970 in Campbell River , British Columbia ) is a Canadian actor .

childhood

Pepper is the youngest of three brothers. When he was a child, his family built a 15 meter (50 foot) boat and toured the South Pacific for five years . Pepper therefore did not receive a regular school education, he either attended special courses primarily or was temporarily in public schools. After five years the family returned to Canada.

education

Pepper attended high school but was mostly interested in arts and sports during that time, playing volleyball and rugby . In 1988 he finished high school and initially wanted to study graphic design. He changed his plans after he got in touch with the Vancouver Actors Studio.

Career

He got his first role in the television series Madison in 1993 . He then played mostly smaller roles in numerous series, e.g. B. in the episode Reise durch das Zeitloch (English title: Summer of Love ) in the series Sliders . He gained greater attention with the role of sniper Private Jackson in Steven Spielberg's war drama Saving Private Ryan . Another prominent role was that of reporter Joseph L. Galloway in the war drama We Were Heroes . This was followed by productions such as Der Staatsfeind Nr. 1 , The Green Mile and Clint Eastwood's war drama Flags of our Fathers . In 2019, he mimes the compromised boss of a South American drug cartel in Running with the Devil .

In 2011 he won an Emmy for his portrayal of Robert F. Kennedy in the television multipart The Kennedys .
