Douglas John Booth (born July 9, 1992 in London - Greenwich ) is a British actor and model.

Life

Douglas Booth's father is British and his mother is Spanish and Dutch. He has an older sister named Abigail. Booth grew up in Greenwich and moved to Sevenoaks in Kent when he was ten .

Booth is dyslexic and found it “very difficult” to read or write until the age of ten. He remains a "really slow reader". He developed his interest in acting at the age of twelve after appearing in a school production of Agamemnon . At the age of fifteen, Booth joined Curtis Brown's agency .

Booth's first professional role was in Julian Fellowes' 2009 children's film From Time to Time, starring Maggie Smith and Timothy Spall . In 2009 and 2010 Booth modeled for the English fashion brand Burberry , among others together with Emma Watson and Lily Donaldson .

His breakthrough came in 2010 in the role of pop star Boy George in the BBC Two drama Worried About the Boy . In the epic film Die Säulen der Erde (2010) he had a small role as Prince Eustach.

Booth played the role of Pip in the BBC One adaptation of Charles Dickens ' Great Expectations (2011) alongside Gillian Anderson and Ray Winstone . Aired over the Christmas season, the miniseries was a huge success. Also in 2011 Booth was seen in the BBC film Christopher and Heinz - Eine Liebe in Berlin , which dealt with Christopher Isherwood's formative years in Berlin in the 1930s. He played Heinz, a German street sweeper who became the lover of Matt Smith's Isherwood. In 2012, he starred opposite Miley Cyrus and Demi Moore in the teen comedy LOL . In 2013, Booth starred alongside Hailee Steinfeld in Carlo Carlei's film adaptation of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet . In 2014, Booth appeared as Shem in Darren Aronofsky's biblical epic Noah alongside Emma Watson.

Booth starred alongside Sam Claflin , Max Irons and Freddie Fox in the black comedy The Riot Club , directed by Lone Scherfig , in September 2014 . The ensemble piece features ten members of an exclusive Oxford University dinner party known as The Riot Club. In 2015 he starred in the science fiction film Jupiter Ascending alongside stars such as Mila Kunis , Channing Tatum and Eddie Redmayne .

He played Mr. Bingley in Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (2016), an adaptation of the novel of the same name by Seth Grahame-Smith.

In the international film Loving Vincent (2017), Booth played the role of Armand Roulin, the son of a friend of Vincent's, who was hired to deliver a letter from Vincent to his brother. This took him on a journey through various stories of Vincent and his death. In The Dirt - They Wanted Sex, Drugs & Rock'n'Roll , the Netflix film adaptation of the biography of the same name about Mötley Crüe , Booth played Nikki Sixx in 2019 .

Others

In 2015 he was named one of the 50 best-dressed British men by GQ magazine .

He has supported the HeForShe feminist campaign and describes himself as a “passionate supporter of gender equality ”.

He's been dating Bel Powley , whom he met on the set of Mary Shelley , since 2016 .
