Olivia Colman
Sarah Caroline Olivia Colman CBE (* the thirtieth January 1974 in Norwich , Norfolk , England , as Sarah Caroline Colman ) is a British actress . She is a multiple BAFTA , three-time Golden Globe winner and received the Oscar for best female leading role in 2019 for her role as Queen Anne in Giorgos Lanthimos ' The Favorite . For her role as Elizabeth II in the series The Crownshe received an Emmy for Best Actress in 2021 .
Childhood and adolescence
Olivia Colman was born in Norwich to a nurse and surveyor. She received her education at Norwich High School for Girls and at Greshams's School in Holt. After leaving school she took a degree in elementary education at Homerton College of Cambridge University . Colman made his first acting experiences at the age of 16 in a school play. In Cambridge, the now 20-year-old played at the Cambridge University Footlights Dramatic Club and discovered her calling as an actress.
Career
Colman is a well-known actress in the UK in television series such as Broadchurch , Peep Show and Rev. She is known to German-speaking audiences from films such as Hot Fuzz and as Thatcher's daughter Carol Thatcher in The Iron Lady from 2011. Her portrayal of police investigator Ellie Miller in the international multi-award-winning television series Broadchurch , which was also broadcast on German television, also brought her a number of personal awards, including the BAFTA TV Award for Best Actress in 2014. Colman has already received two other BAFTA Awards in 2013 been awarded. Private life
In an open letter to the Guardian newspaper in August 2014, Olivia Colman and 200 other British celebrities signed an appeal against Scotland's aspirations for independence in the September 2014 referendum.
Olivia Colman met her husband, actor Ed Sinclair, while studying at Cambridge. Law student Sinclair and elementary school teacher Colman both played there as part of the Cambridge Footlights Theater and stood together for a production of Alan Ayckbourn's Table Manners . They married in August 2001 and have two sons and a daughter together.
Colman suffered from PPD (postpartum depression) for about a year after giving birth to their first child . Against the background that the clinical picture is not infrequently unknown to those affected, Colman spoke in a big-issue interview and later repeatedly publicly about her own experiences and the knowledge about the disease and possible contacts resulting from her own research. She has hosted the Mind Media Awards twice , an award for particularly accurate, responsible and sensitive depictions of mental illness in all areas of the British media. She publicly supports and promotes the Anthony Nolan Leukemia Foundation and the fundraising campaigns of the British Alzheimer's Society and Marie Curie Daffodil Day (for the terminally ill). Inspired by her research for the film Tyrannosaur , she took over the patronage of the Tender Foundation in 2014, which aims to educate and protect young people against (domestic) violence and sexual abuse through the medium of theater and the arts.
In 2019, Colman was elevated to the rank of Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) by Queen Elizabeth II in the Birthday Honors .
