Another guest is staying at the Roosevelt family estate this weekend: Margaret 'Daisy' Suckley, a distant cousin of the President, with whom he has a love affair. A stormy weekend is looming with all kinds of secrecy, cramped picnics, political differences, hot dogs , British snobbery and nocturnal escapades that will far exceed the fears of everyone involved and in the end will bring the two nations closer together.

background

In early March 2011, producer Roger Michell began looking for American actors to cast Roosevelt and Suckley. Bill Murray agreed to serve as President Roosevelt in late March.

Bill Murray plays Franklin D. Roosevelt, the 32nd President of the United States of America, who fought against the consequences of the Great Depression of 1929, polio and Adolf Hitler's urge to expand over the course of four terms and emerged victorious from all these conflicts. Laura Linney plays Margaret 'Daisy' Suckley, his fifth cousin and secret lover. The real Margaret Suckley was 99 years old. It was only when a box with letters and diaries was found under her bed after her death in 1991 that her very special relationship with the president was no longer a secret. Inspired by these diaries, director Roger Michell wanted to take a look behind the scenes of world history. The script was written by Richard Nelson, who met the real Margaret Suckley shortly before her death.
