Samuel West
Samuel Alexander Joseph West (born June 19, 1966 in London ) is a British film and theater actor and director .
life and career
Born to Timothy West and Prunella Scales - both also film actors - West also has a brother, Joseph, and a half-sister, Juliet. He studied English literature at the University of Oxford between 1985 and 1989 and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts .
West has worked as an actor in film , television , theater and radio . He made his stage debut in 1989 in the play Les Parents terribles by Jean Cocteau . During his work in the Royal Shakespeare Company he has taken on many leading and title roles from Richard II to Hamlet . In 2002 he also made his debut as a director with the play The Lady Is Not For Fire by Christopher Fry .
West has also been in front of the film camera since 1975 . In 1991, he starred in the film Howards End Against Emma Thompson , Helena Bonham Carter and Anthony Hopkins , which earned him a BAFTA nomination. In 2004 he was in Van Helsing as Dr. Frankenstein and in Die Nibelungen as King Gunther .
As a television actor, he has already been seen in around 50 series, such as Inspector Barnaby , Waking the Dead and The Inspector Lynley Mysteries . He was also involved in many BBC productions. In 2003 he played the role of double agent Anthony Blunt in the four-part drama series Cambridge Spies and in 2006 he also played one of the leading roles in Random Quest .
In recent years, West has also made a name for himself as a spokesperson for numerous documentaries . These include The Nazis: A Warning From History , Anne Frank: The Life of a Young Girl and Auschwitz: The Nazis and the Final Solution . In 2008 he was the executive theater director at London's Almeida Theater for Harley Granville-Barker's historical drama Waste .
West, who is also an avowed choir singer, has already toured Palestine twice with his choir . During his time at university, he was a member of the Socialist Workers Party . He was politically active for several years and a severe critic of Tony Blair's government .
