action

Becky Fuller works as a producer on a successful local morning show in New Jersey and is expecting a promotion - as are her colleagues who have already had appropriate T-shirts printed. Instead, she is fired from the team by her boss in order to save costs, in order to be able to pay a new, more highly qualified and established producer who is to be built up to become the head of the station.

She finds a new job on the IBS program Daybreak . There she meets the attractive Adam Bennett, and a romance is developing between the two. The Guten Morgen show, however, is “understaffed, underfunded” and takes fourth place among the shows on breakfast television in terms of audience approval . On her first day at work, Becky fires the gockelike male co-host. As a replacement, it hires the renowned news journalist Mike Pomeroy, taking advantage of a contractual clause. However, he feels the format is below his dignity and is reluctant to moderate light topics, such as cooking in the show. The relationship with his moderator colleague Colleen Peck, a former beauty queen, is characterized by deep dislike.

If the quotas cannot be increased, the program threatens to be canceled. Thanks to innovative changes, Becky succeeds in turning things around for the better. Pomeroy makes the key contribution with a hard-researched reveal story that matches his professional standards, extending the show for another year. Nevertheless, Pomeroy continues to refuse to moderate shallow topics. As a result of her success, Becky receives an offer from the prestigious NBC Today news program . Since this is her greatest childhood dream and Pomeroy would never change, she goes to an interview. When Pomeroy learns about this, he changes his heart and improvises a cooking show on Daybreak. During the job interview, Becky sees Pomeroy on TV and decides to stay with the Daybreak team, which she now considers her family.

“Roger Michell has made his first comedy since Notting Hill (1999) - and sets the pace as if he had just been waiting for it. The rapid exchange of blows is reminiscent of screwball classics such as "His Girl for Special Cases" with Cary Grant. And Michell doesn't commit the faux pas of creating a romance for the young thing and the old hand. Patrick Wilson ("Awkwardly in love") also plays with ... But Hollywood's most charming minimal mime Harrison Ford, who hardly condescends to growl, here ties in with one of his star roles after 22 years, which is easily displaced between all the Jedis and Indy: the businessman in the Eighties classic "The Weapons of Women", who promotes the clever secretary Melanie Griffith from the anteroom to the boardroom. "

- Cinema

“The creepy thing about Morning Glory is the total lack of awareness with which the film deals with its subject. He knows nothing of the fact that the role of the media is being discussed everywhere in newspapers, on television and on the Internet in a period of tremendous change. Instead, director Roger Michell imagines an absurd media dream world in pink and finds the appropriate images for it: McAdams' hair waves in slow motion; People sip coffee from paper cups with important expressions and meet their great love in the elevator; and Harrison Ford, as an eternally grumbling star journalist with a sock fetish, is just as uninhibited as McAdams. What could have been a secondary mainstream melodrama becomes a real annoyance. "
