Patrick Wilson (born July 3, 1973 in Norfolk , Virginia ) is an American actor .

Life

As a child, Wilson worked towards his goal of a singing career on Broadway. In 2004 he directed The Phantom of the Opera with Gerard Butler and Emmy Rossum . In this musical he played Raoul de Chagny , who with the title character vies for the favor of the beautiful opera singer Christine Daaé. He already brought singing experience there. Wilson previously had success on New York Broadway with the musicals The Full Monty and Oklahoma! celebrated, for which he was nominated for the renowned Tony Theater Prize in 2001 and 2002 for Best Actor in a Musical .

He became known to a larger audience in 2003 for his role in Mike Nichols ' successful television adaptation of Tony Kushner's play Angels in America . For the part of the homosexual Joe Pitt , who is fleeing into marriage with a friend, he received a Golden Globe and an Emmy nomination for Best Supporting Actor in a TV series, miniseries or a TV movie . In 2009, he played one of the leading roles in the comic book adaptation Watchmen and also voiced the character Nite Owl II in the video game Watchmen: The End Is Nigh . Wilson's international breakthrough came in 2010 when he starred in both the action film The A-Team and the horror film Insidious . The films Conjuring - The Visitation and its sequel Conjuring 2 also achieved great popularity . In it, Wilson plays the demonologist Ed Warren . In 2019 he took on the role of Ocean Master in the comic book adaptation Aquaman .

From 2001 to 2002 he was in a relationship with actress Jennifer Love Hewitt . Wilson has been married to actress Dagmara Domińczyk since 2005 and has two children.
