Krass is a 2006 American drama film directed by Ryan Murphy . Ryan Murphy wrote the screenplay based on Augusten Burroughs' 2002 autobiographical novel "Krass!" ("Running with Scissors: A Memoir") .
action
The action begins in 1972 when seven-year-old Augusten Burroughs listens to his mother Deirdre reading a poem. Six years later, Deirdre breaks up with her husband Norman, who is suffering from alcoholism. She meets with the therapist Dr. Finch, she sometimes takes her son to meetings.
Dr. Finch is married to Agnes and has two daughters, Hope and Natalie, and an adopted son, Neil. Nevertheless, Deirdre decides to join Dr. Draw Finch. You and Dr. Finch enter into a sexual relationship.
Augusten begins a relationship with Neil. Augusten's greatest wish is to go to beautician college and he takes the opportunity to practice on family members. Augusten's mother discovers her lesbian tendencies and transfers custody of Augusten to Dr. Finch. Deirdre is suffering from psychotic attacks and is becoming more and more estranged from her son.
Over time it turns out that Dr. Finch embezzled money from his daughter Natalie and Augusten's mother. After the psychotic Neil tried unsuccessfully to get Dr. To kill Finch, he and Augusten leave town. Augusten realizes that he can neither stay with Finch's family nor return to his mother. He asks Natalie to go to New York with him. However, she refuses. Natalie's mother, Agnes, gives Augusten her savings to start a new life in New York, despite the Finch's house being foreclosed.
Reviews
Justin Chang wrote in Variety on October 13, 2006 that the "rudderless" film adaptation does not reflect the narrative style of the novel. Chang praised several scenes, but compared the film to a patched quilt . He praised the "complex" portrayal by Annette Bening; Brian Cox and Jill Clayburgh were also praised.
Rob Nelson wrote in the Village Voice on October 17, 2006 that the film was a sure candidate for the Oscars ("inevitable Oscar contender").
