Ed Warren

Edward Warren Miney (born September 7, 1926 in Bridgeport , Connecticut , † August 23, 2006 in Monroe , Connecticut) was an American demonologist who worked closely with his wife Lorraine Rita Warren .

Life

As a child, Ed Warren lived with his father in Bridgeport, Connecticut, in a house where apparently inexplicable phenomena were occurring. Since his father could not explain this to him, Warren began by his own account to deal with parapsychological phenomena . In 1943 he joined the United States Navy and served aboard a merchant navy ship in World War II . After his military service he attended an art school and painted sea scenes, landscapes and so-called haunted houses. He began to look specifically for “haunted houses” and paint them together with his wife Lorraine. One of these houses was the Ocean Born Mary House in Henniker , New Hampshire, later known through his investigations .

Ed Warren and his wife were the leading "haunted researchers" in the United States for over three decades, giving lectures on psychological topics at colleges and universities, including in 1972 at the West Point Military Academy . Ed and Lorraine Warren founded The New England Society for Psychic Research in 1952, and later a museum on the occult. You have authored many books and investigated the Amityville Horror House case . During their career, the Warrens examined numerous haunted houses and other supposedly supernatural phenomena.

Reception in the film

In 1991 the broadcaster FOX filmed Warren's book The Haunted under the same title (German title: House of the Living Dead ). For his statements in the book The Devil in Connecticut , which was filmed in 1983 under the title The Demon Murder Case with Kevin Bacon , Warren was sued by those involved in 2006 in the course of a planned reprint of the book.

In 2009, the film was The Haunting (The Haunting in Connecticut) released, based on alleged events in a haunted house that Warren studied in the 1980s. The 2013 horror film Conjuring - The Conjuring also refers to the work of the Warrens and was directed by James Wan . There he is played by Patrick Wilson and his wife is played by Vera Farmiga . Lorraine Warren acted as a consultant when making the film. In addition, a prequel for Conjuring was created in 2014 . This is called Annabelle . Like Conjuring , the film is based on an event from the 1970s described by Warren.
