Daniel Sangouma

Daniel Sangouma (born February 7, 1965 in Saint-Denis , Réunion ) is a former French sprinter .

At the European Indoor Championships in 1985 he was fifth and shortly afterwards fourth in the 200-meter run at the World Indoor Games . In 1986 he was fourth at the European Indoor Championships. At the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul , he was eliminated over 200 meters in the second round. In the 4 x 100 meter relay , the French relay team with Bruno Marie-Rose , Daniel Sangouma, Gilles Quenéhervé and Max Morinière won bronze in 38.40 seconds behind the Soviet Union and Great Britain.

At the European Championships in Split in 1990 , Sangouma finished second in the 100-meter run behind the Brit Linford Christie . Only sprinters from the United Kingdom and France were placed in the first six places , which made it an exciting race in the relay. The final on September 1, 1990 lived up to expectations. The British ran for 37.98 s, but that was only enough for silver, because the French relay with the line-up Max Morinière, Daniel Sangouma, Jean-Charles Trouabal and Bruno Marie-Rose ran a world record with 37.79 s . For the first time since the Jamaica relay held the world record for a day in 1968, the US relay had not owned the world record. In the same year, the four sprinters were voted France's Sportsman of the Year ( Champion des champions ) by the sports newspaper L'Équipe .

On August 7, 1991, at the Weltklasse Zürich meeting , the US relay improved the world record to 37.67 s, the French relay was significantly behind with 38.39 s, although it had the same line-up as in Split. After that, three Americans won the medals in the 100-meter run at the World Championships in Tokyo . Sangouma was eliminated in the semifinals. In the season finale, the US sprinters improved their world record to 37.50 s, Morinière, Sangouma, Trouabal and Marie-Rose won silver with 37.87 s, ahead of the British.

At the European Indoor Championships in Genoa in 1992 , Sangouma won silver over 200 meters behind the Bulgarian Nikolaj Antonov and was fifth over 60 meters . At the Olympic Games in Barcelona , the French relay team dropped out with Sangouma in the semifinals.

In 1994 Sangouma won gold over 200 meters at the European Indoor Championships in Paris and was fifth again over 60 meters. At the European Championships in Helsinki he was eliminated over 200 meters in the semi-finals. The relay won the title again in 38.57 s with Hermann Lomba , Éric Perrot , Jean-Charles Trouabal and Daniel Sangouma.

In 1990 and 1991 he was French champion over 100 meters. In the hall he won national titles in 1988, 1992 and 1994 over 200 and 1992 over 60 meters.

Daniel Sangouma is 1.87 m tall and weighed 84 kg during his playing days.
