Andrei Wassiljewitsch Prokofjew

Andrei Wassiljewitsch Prokofjew ( Russian Андрей Васильевич Прокофьев , English transcription Andrey Prokofyev ; born June 6, 1959 in Sverdlovsk ; † June 19, 1989 ) was a Soviet hurdler and sprinter .

Prokofiev was the Soviet champion in the 110-meter hurdles in 1978, 1982, 1983 and 1986 . In 1982 he also won the 100-meter run . In 1979 and 1983 Prokofiev won the hurdles sprint at the Universiade .

At the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow, the hurdles from the United States were not at the start because of the Olympic boycott . Andrei Prokofiev finished fourth in the 110 meter hurdles in 13.49 s, 0.05 s behind bronze. In the 4 x 100 meter relay , the Soviet team won gold in the line-up of Vladimir Muravyov , Nikolai Sidorow , Alexander Aksinin and Prokofiev gold in 38.26 s ahead of Poland, France, Great Britain and the GDR.

At the European Championships in Athens in 1982 Prokofjew won silver in 13.46 s behind Thomas Munkelt from the GDR in 13.41 s. The relay with the line-up of Sergei Sokolow , Aksinin, Prokofjew and Sidorow won the European championship title in 38.60 seconds ahead of the teams from the GDR (silver) and the FRG (bronze), who were at the same time with 38.71 seconds.

At the 1983 World Championships in Helsinki, the Soviet relay team with Prokofjew, Sidorow, Muravjow and Wiktor Bryshin won bronze in 38.41 seconds, behind Italy (silver in 38.37 seconds) and the relay from the USA, with 37.86 seconds World record ran.

Andrei Prokofiev was 1.87 m tall and weighed 83 kg.
