In the medal table, they took second place behind the Soviet Union . The USA was the most successful in the swimming competitions, and Mark Spitz stood out with his seven gold medals - this record was only set by Michael Phelps . The flag bearer at the opening ceremony was the athlete Olga Fikotová .
