Gerald Alexander Tinker (born January 19, 1951 in Miami , Florida ) is a former American sprinter and Olympic champion . After his career in athletics , he became an American football player in the National Football League (NFL).

At the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich, he won the gold medal in the 4 x 100 meter relay on September 10 . The US relay in the line-up Larry Black , Robert Taylor , Gerald Tinker and Eddie Hart set the US team's 1968 world record in 38.19 seconds and won ahead of the teams from the Soviet Union (38.50 s) and the Federal Republic Germany (38.79 s).

From 1974 Tinker played American football in the National Football League. Already in college he was active as a football player and was a teammate of Jack Lambert , a later member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame . He ran as a wide receiver in 1974 and 1975 for the Atlanta Falcons and moved to the Green Bay Packers in his second season . After two seasons he ended his career.
