Willie Applegarth (actually William Reuben Applegarth ; born May 11, 1890 in Guisborough , North Yorkshire , England , † December 5, 1958 in Schenectady , New York , USA ) was a British sprinter and Olympic champion .

Applegarth was British AAA champion over 100 yards in 1913 and 1914 and over 220 yards from 1912 to 1914. After World War I , he repeated Donald Lippincott's world record with 10.6 seconds over 100 meters and set a new world record over 200 meters with a Time of 21.2 seconds. Applegarth died at the age of 68, the exact year his former British record was broken for over 100 yards.

At the Olympic Games in Stockholm in 1912 he won the bronze medal in the 200-meter run , behind the two Americans Ralph Craig (gold) and Donald Lippincott (silver), as well as the gold medal in the 4 x 100 meter relay together with his teammates David Jacobs , Henry Macintosh and Victor d'Arcy , in front of the team from Sweden .
